The house is situated on just 2 acres, but is surrounded by much larger parcels of woodlands and forest, making it feel rather private and tucked away in nature. While there is a local road nearby it tends to be very quiet outside, with mostly the sound of the lovely babbling brook we have on our property, and plenty of bird song, frog calls and an occasional hoot from nearby owls.

The gardens, if one can call it that way, have been mostly left to their own devices and all the flowers one can see are wild flowers, with the exception of the rhododendron just outside the deck facing the river.

Across the brook is a small meadow where in the summer one can find wild blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and tons of little blackberries hiding under the leaves.

We like to keep it plain and simple out there – there’s a bench close to the river, and we  put up a new hammock just about 10 ft out from the river; our deck has a simple outdoor table with two benches (seats about 6) and just outside the deck is a bbq grill; use a wood fire in the grill or use charcoal to fix your dinner.

If you want to build a larger fire ( more like a bonfire or a campfire), you can do so safely year-round on our little island in the river…. it has a firepit and several logs to sit on….
